Mission Statement: Women's Art as Resistance

RE-VISIONS is about re-looking and re-examining the social functions of art, through new lenses.
This is NOT a magazine about "high" art. This is NOT a magazine that dismisses overtly political work by marginalized groups—in fact, we encourage it!
This IS a magazine that seeks to foster a cultural climate of support for women to engage in dialogues surrounding power relations, inequality, agency and activism through art, at both a national and community level.
This IS a magazine that recognizes the efforts of self-identified women of all races, ethnicities, cultures, classes, sexualities, and abilities, as they strive and struggle, in many different (often contradictory) voices, for social change. Its focus is on women's art; and when we say that, we do not mean white women feminist art that often forgets about women of Color or material conditions. Nor does women's art mean ignoring queer issues.
WHAT IS ART?
Art is your passion. Do you find yourself, or a woman you know, immersed in creating plays, writing essays, poetry, short stories, fiction or non-fiction; painting; taking photographs; making textiles, music, films, cartoons, or sculptures; teaching; generating mixed media projects or web pages; performing; talking back or ???, in the name of revolution? We want to hear about it!
